Mount Yale

Report

Jo picked this one for us. We drove up to Buena Vista for the weekend to explore the collegiate range a bit.

We spent the night before camping near the trailhead. We woke up around 5AM to hit the trail. The first couple miles were dissapointingly flat. When you know you need to climb 4500 hundred feet, you’d like to knock that out gradually. Eventually it steepened up and was a consistent climb up to the ridge.

It was a beautiful day. No stormy clouds looming, just a nice sunny, not too hot day. Once on the ridge it was a bit of a scramble to the top. The views were classically nice. As typical, it was the long descent that hurt the most.

We ended up hiking for over 7 hours. Our legs were feeling it. This was the first 14er that we’d done since like 2020. We’re looking forward to doing some more later this summer.
