Pedernal

Report

Cerro Pedernal is an iconic peak in this region. It’s famously been painted and photographed and was always going to make this list.

Jo and I had a fun day driving out there. It was a fairly easy hike up until the final scamble to the summit. Pedernal means flint in spanish. We hiked through a few flint fields covered in awesome rocks. Some other hikers hiked their favorite specimens and left them at the summit.

After enjoying the rootbeer we made our way down and stumbled into a honey hole of pinon pine. We filled a bag to bring home and made into pesto.

Sadly a few weeks later somebody fell while doing the final scramble. We were called out on Search and Rescue (I couldn’t go) but they had to helicopter the guy out.
