Report

This peak we did while driving home from a long road trip around southern New Mexico. Anxious to keep on track for my goal I was on the lookout of peaks along the road on the drive home. We saw Magdalena from a distance and figured we had a spare few hours to try to bag it.

This one was another bushwhack trying to stay off private property. While scrambling up we ran into a rattlesnake. It had been like the 3rd we’d seen that week. I had been cautious the entire way up keeping my eyes on the ground. This was the type of terrain where you just knew there would be snakes and sure enough.

After signing the register we carefully made our way back down.
