Needing to really kick off the trend of trying to get a peak in every other week I went though and marked ~30 peaks around New Mexico above 12,000ft. Unfortunately a lot are pretty difficult to access. This one however was not too bad.
Starting from the “backside” of the Pecos on some logging road we were able to get within 5 or so miles of the peak. A fire ripped through here a few years back. The elevation gain didn’t feel too bad given the distance but we were feeling it. I opted to snag the southern peak as well (only 250 feet or so prominent and more or less on the route). I met Jo back on the trail and continued to the summit.
Celebrated with views of the Pecos and a rootbeer and headed home. Didn’t see a single soul on the trails that day.
