Black rock

Report

Jo and I were In Hollbrook Arizona for a quick weekend at Petrified Foreset National Park. We stayed at the Wigwam hotel which the Cozy Cone from Cars was based off of. Kinda fun, classic route 66 vibes.

Wanting to bag a quick peak while we were out there I found this one. It stuck out on Google Maps as a giant black spot. We drove out there early one morning. Jo was worried it was on private land so didn’t want to do it with me, so she chilled while I climbed it. There was no trail, so I just wandered up a wash then scrambled to the top. The top was strange, it had what looked like 3 abandoned mines that were all fenced off. Nice views at the top though, drank a root beer and scrambled down.

On the way up I saw a few great pieces of petrified wood and so I dragged Jo up to get them with me. It was the biggest piece of wood I’ve ever found. The National Park was full of awesome wood and I badly wanted some of my own.

Nice morning hike.
